EP 67: Do You Need an Altar?

EP 67: Do You Need an Altar?

Do you actually need an altar to practice witchcraft?

Short answer: No.

Longer answer? That's what we're talking about in this episode of The Raven's Grimoire.

Altars are everywhere in modern witchcraft, especially online. Beautiful candles, crystals, statues, herbs, antique bottles, and perfectly arranged witchy treasures can make it seem like creating an altar is one of the first requirements for becoming a witch.

But what is an altar actually for?

In this episode, we're talking about what an altar is, why you might want one, the difference between an altar and a shrine, what you can put on an altar, and why yours doesn't have to look anything like the elaborate spaces you see on social media.

We'll also talk about temporary altars, hidden altars, travel altars, outdoor altars, and what to do when you simply don't have the space, privacy, money, or desire for one.

Because your altar can be an elaborate sacred space...

Or a candle on your nightstand.

It can fit inside a tiny tin.

It can exist on your kitchen table for twenty minutes.

Or you can have no altar at all.

The altar isn't what makes you a witch. Your practice does.
